Just took a Youtube tour of the TASCAM GB10 & BOSS BR80 guitar recorder, sampler, trainer and tons of other cool features.
The two portable electronic gadgets takes the place of the old PANDORA'S BOX which are no longer available.
You can import steel tracks or songs(MP3s'), slow them down, loop them, record licks from tracks, they both have pre-recorded guitar song files, Blues, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Pop etc plus hundreds of other cool tricks inside.
NOW Who in the pedal steel guitar world owns one of these gadgets??????
What's your opinion regarding one of these? |

I recently got a GB-10 that I really haven't used much yet. I traded a GT-2 for it that I have used to slow tunes down to learn some licks. Now I don't have to make CD's of the tunes! |

I have the Boss BR80 and also have used it very little. The scroll wheel and tiny display is not so easy to use. The learning curve is slow and it's more of a recording device with extra features. The jam band feature is nice and it has amp models and effects, but you must tweak everything to find a good tone. I also have the Tascam MP-GT and its ok too but again the scroll wheel and amp/effects settings are a pain. I use the Korg Pandora px4 the most. Now days my smartphone and a mixer amp is the back up band for practice. Online Pandora radio or You Tube, or just MP3 backing tracks. |

Thanks Larry & Bill for you input regarding both of theses devices. The Tascam cost $149 and the Boss cost $299 at Guitar Center.
Like with all these devices there is a learning curve. What I like about the the Tascam GB10 it has a tuner, you can down load MP3 steel backing tracks, steel songs and even C&W music files. You don't need to turn on your amp or you can also hook it up to your amp like the Nashville 112 & 1000. Another feature is the speed control & loop features. Great for a Buddy Emmons or Franklin lick. It does'nt look like to you can change keys with the Tascam, but you can do this with the Boss.
Regarding the other features I'm not that interested, as long as I can get by with what features I'm interested in.
It looks like the Tascam for now.
On my P.C. I have the Amazing Slow Downer which is a great program that you can slow down or speed up steel licks, loop them and even change keys.
Another device I have is the Chop Shop, similar in size as the Tascam but very limited, it's going on 16 years since I purchased this device it's about to call it quits, it's a very simple device for slowing down licks & songs but for only 30 seconds max. Again this device is long gone out of production.
Again thanks, Ken |

The Tascam GB-10 has landed in my music room.
Prior to purchasing the GB10, I watched a 18 minute Youtube video explaining how to maneuver through all it's features, this was an absolute plus, it gave me heads up on the GB10.
Right now I'm satisfied with it's features, some I'll never use (metronome, FX features), the tuner works great with my steel, the quality of sound is awesome, you can balance, both your steel with the backing track, and listen via headphones, easy to transfer my backing tracks from my computer. You can also loop a lick or portions of song which works ok for me so far.
The only disappointment is the speed control, the quality of slowing down a song or track is poor.
I have AMAZING SLOW DOWNER on my computer and it's great for slowing down a song or lick, just loop a portion of a song or the steel lick on file. With the AMAZING SLOW DOWNER, you can decrease the speed of a lick by _1% and slow it down to almost 0%.
Over all the GB10 will do the job.
You'll need to purchase the PS-P520E AC Adopter,(it does use 2 batteries). This adopter can be purchased at SAM ASH, Guitar Centers no longer carries the adopter.
