Hello Everyone,
It's been a minute since I released my "learning to play Pedal Steel"course on homespun tapes. I believe it was in 1986.
I've decided to start teaching again. I figured . Instead of another Pedal Steel course , I would do a modern lap steel course. In other words , more of a rock lap-steel approach for steel players and guitarists. I'm hoping to release it in the next few weeks. Cool deal Bruce! You had posted recently that you are now playing a Lap King - I'm guessing that you and Jerry Douglas were hanging out at some point - Your Lap King Rodeo with the Hipshot DoubleShot and extended body is only the second one I've seen besides Jerry's (in the photo below).
One of our own members in the comments below Bruce's teaser video on YouTube asked it it was a "whammy bar?" No - nothing of the kind - it instantly changes between one tuning to another when you flip the lever. Since Bruce's video is about G and D tunings I assume it's set up the same as Jerry's: with the lever pushed forward just above the body of the guitar he is in low-to-hi GBDGBD. With the lever flipped back behind the tail of the guitar the tuning is DADF#AD. The DoubleShot made its first appearance on some of Jerry's signature Beard resonator guitars.
And a modern "Coodercaster" pickup combo by Jason Lollar.

| I'm unsure about this -- is this going to be an online course like the Paul Franklin course (that I really enjoyed a year's subscription to) or will it be available as a DVD? I have come to realize that the online format does not work well for me but I'd buy a DVD of this in an instant. The clip looks/sounds great. |

I don't think we plan on doing a DVD. It will be online but unlike Paul's course, which a continuing, evolving program based on a subcription , mine is a one shot deal. You buy, you have access forevever.
Paul's course is more like going to school. He is consistantly adding content and always answering students questions.
My course is a basic intro to country /rock lapsteel.

I kind of like the buy the course and you "have access forever" idea. So, many instructors now have "tuition" and there's nothing wrong with that either. Just that as "adult students", our time may be limited and we just can't do everything.
Life isn't always as simple as being able to plan a "schedule" and sticking to it.
Anyway, looking forward to the course.

Folks , the course still has some loose ends that need to be cleaned up but we are considering releasing as is, with the understanding that I will edit, and add to the course over the next couple months.
In the meantime I'm thinking that I would offer a free skype lesson on steel or lap steel , to anyone that signs up for the course.
Needless to say. I have a lot of free time right now.

Good question. First of all , Thunder Roll's was not me . It was Chris Leauzinger on slide guitar. I didn't play on that track.
" Papa Love's Mama" was me.
We were at the end of the session and Garth asked if we could just do a quick demo on a "silly" little song ,that he and Kim Williams had written. I plugged my lap steel into a Rat pedal and some sort of tube preamp stright into the board. Mark Casstevens started playing the acoustic guitar lick and we joined in. Before we had finished the first verse , Alan Reynolds , the producer stopped us and asked us to start again. He turned the tape on and we cut the song. First take. We accidentally cut a hit:)
