This is really cool, I think - it's Chopin's Etude Op 25, No. 2 - but played jazz-style. The right hand is the same as written by Chopin melodically, but plays with the rhythm. Left hand is different, putting jazz chords behind the melody to give it a jazzier feel.
Personally, I think it would sound cool with the right hand part played on a lap or pedal steel - no individual part would be that hard, I think - but there is no rest anywhere, so the whole thing would be difficult.

Interesting, although not as successful as Jacques Loussier's Bach. I think the reason is that the Chopin is full of chromatic passing notes and if you listen to the original only the first beat of each measure has to be harmonically "correct" - so when you jazz it up you end up accenting notes that don't quite deserve it, while in Bach everything scores.
Still fun though. As for Chick Corea, I think what he may have stumbled upon is that just about any minor-key melody can work with a Latin feel. What's your favourite funeral march? Try it as a tango

| John Kirby recorded a jazz version of the e minor prelude in the early 40’s, and Don Byron did a remake on his excellent album Bug Music a while back. Both are worth listening to. |
