Shipped priority post on April 30th, my Fouke Industrial Guitars 7 string finally made it to its new home on Vancouver Island today. Definitely worth the wait. Excellent build quality, super playability, and great tone too. Here he is with his older brother.

Walter, the pickup is a DiMarzio humbucker with a coil tap switch.
No need for a Clinesmith when I can have a fantastic guitar custom built for me by Chris Fouke for about half the price. I am well aware of the reputation here of Todd Clinesmith, and have no doubt that it is well deserved. But Chris has been perfecting his craft for more than 20 years. He is easy to work with, his craftsmanship is first class, and his instruments are fabulous. |

First of all I am not trying to start a war here. I am sure both vendors are nice guys to deal with. I have dealt with Todd recently and he was fine with me, even though it was for a small $$$$ item, Todd treated me like I was buying a full blown guitar.
I think in all fairness, you are not comparing apples to apples here. While both play music (like you would expect) the build process is far from the same. I have built 2 similar to the Fouke steels. With a CNC machine ( I don't have one, I am a manual machinist) much of the work goes out of the equation. Strap the top and bottom together and drill the holes, machine the profile and now you automatically got one side for free.........
That CNC can be used for considerable other items on that steel, not the case with the cast aluminum one. Getting a mold made isn't cheap. Getting the rough item smoothed up and polished is a time consuming task to say the least. I'm sure the sound of the cast one is probably better than the sheet aluminum, but I never heard a comparison of the two side by side playing the same song with the same musician. This is strictly my opinion from what I know about metal.
I believe both are high quality instruments with much thought, labor, and pride involved. It comes down to $$$$$$$ or whether you like the price of apples or oranges.

I imagine he bought the Fouke because he wanted one.
I want one and will be ordering it shortly. They absolutely fascinate me.
I can't imagine criticizing someone's choice of instruments but it happened to me too.
I bought an Asher Hawaiian Jr. and someone just couldn't understand that and told me so, several times.
I still have a bitter taste in my mouth over that.

I forgot to congratulate you on your new acquisition.
I hope you have years of enjoyment out of it.
I probably will send Chris an email and ask a few questions about what I want before I jump in.
What I want is a baritone lap steel with the Duesenberg Multibender bridge installed.
No, I'm not insane. Well, don't ask my wife about that.
My reasoning being I have a Duesenberg Fairytale and I absolutely love it and have always wanted to have a baritone lap steel. So why not?
They produce a beautiful sound to my old ears.
If that is not feasible he has a particular baritone model on his website I really like.

I know that he’s installed multibenders, and he builds baritones, so there’s a very good chance that your dream can come true. |

Those are two really fine guitars. Fouke Industrial guitars are really cool and I was undoubtedly convinced the first time I held one just how solid and well made it was. Hearing it firsthand also proved what a cool instrument it is. Good luck with it!
