Bought this one recently and am seriously smitten. It's my second S8 the other being an early '50s Deluxe Fender that lives in C6, it is perfect in that tuning. This one is in A6 now but i think im gonna get some thicker strings on it and drop it down to G6 for some haunting E minor stuff i wanna do. Anyway, here she is in all her glory, my mid '50s Magnatone 8.
As you can see, she's a big girl with a 24 1/2" scale. |

Those are nice guitars, in my opinion. They have a different sound than other eight string guitars from the same period. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Hi Glenn,
That's a great guitar; G65 I think. I have a 6-string G70 with the same MOTS finish, scale length and outstanding PU. I call my tuning GM6/ C7, and it would sound great on your 8-string; low to hi; Bb, Bb(re-entrant),C,E,G,B,D,G. Don't know, but it might work well for Em?? I use a C6 SIT brand string set + a .013 Hi G string. |

An 8 string G65 is a rare find indeed... I'm a huge fan of the G65 / G70 lap steels. _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

Hi Glenn,
I've attached a Fretboard Map for GM6/C7 tuning. It might be useful, since it's got most of the chords for Em shown.
