That is some fine playing, beautiful tone. And, I sure miss singers like that. You could always trust them to pick great songs and sing them...greatly.

Here is an interview with Bucky Baxter when he toured with Bob Dylan.

http://www.b-dylan.com/pages/samples/buckybaxter.html

Bucky Baxter toured with Steve Wariner in the past and they recorded some radio shows on vinyl, a very good steel player. I read somewhere he was a student of Buddy Charleton.

Bucky was also one of the original Dukes of Earle.

I recently read up a bit on Bucky Baxter, and besides playing for Bob Dylan for awhile, he gave steel lessons to Bob Dylan. I wonder how that went.

Outstanding! Bucky is indeed a fabulous player!

Bucky is a former Buddy Charleton student, as were quite a few of us back in the mid-to-late 70's (Bruce Bouton, Pete Finney, Tommy Hannum, Jay Jessup, etc.).

I came to know Bucky back then. He played with "The Good Humor Band" after Bruce left, and the band I was in at the time played some split-bill dates with them in Va. Great memories!

I have always admired Bucky's work with Jim Lauderdale. Here is a sample:

Last time I saw Suzi, she was not using a steel guitar. Very minimalist band, lead guitar, bass and her rhythm guitar.

Absolutely stunning and horrible news. He is far too young for this.

This is certainly an unexpected turn of events. I never met Bucky, but liked his playing. I kinda hope he learned of this thread before passing. A lot of us apparently enjoyed his playing.

Sad to hear this, I once had contact with him.
I asked about the Steve Wariner radio shows and he didn't knew they recorded these.
When I met Steve Wariner I spoke about these radio shows and he said he saw Bucky every once in while in Nashville.
Really sad news.
