Last year I lost a wrench at a venue. After a quick tear-down, I didn't notice it was missing until I set up at home the next day.
I had developed a bad habit -- when tweaking a pedal/lever, I leave the wrench on the nut. Either it will fall off and I have to chase it across the stand or, in that case, it fell off, rolled away and I didn't notice it was gone.
The key to this thing here -- it swivels. The cord does not wrap around the stem when you wind it. The plastic ring is from a hardware store, the mini clothes pin is from a hobby shop. There are two drill press-drilled holes. If I need to make another, it will be a bit neater but I don't think I'll do anything differently.
It has held up well after a couple dozen gigs.

That's a good idea, maybe, at home. But if you leave the wrench on the tuner at a gig, sooner or later, someone might bump into it. The resultant damage (a bent or broken rod end) might not be easily repairable.
I've seen it happen! |

I tried to put my steel in the case with it on one of the nuts and I'm surprised it didn't screw up he nut or bend the rod. _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

Good idea, Jon. Maybe you could build one for me and include cords for my picks and bar!

That’s a good idea. I leave my wrench in the pull rods all the time and end up picking it up off the floor. _________________ I survived the sixties! |

I love it! Simplicity is the ultimate elegance.
Jon, your quick-disconnect is worthy of imitation. I might borrow on that idea. |

Lee -- they will have clips that attach to the cuffs of your shirt just like I had with my mittens in kindergarten. I will make something nice for you. |

Ian -- yes, Williams. There is a volume pot on the deck. This is a post-FX-rack volume control to allow for full volume pedal into distortion devices yet have ("emergency") volume control to the amp -- after years of trying I still can't get the overdrive pedal output set at home where it is proper at band volume on stage. Cutting back on the volume pedal destroys the distortion pedal's tone. Proper wiring would have the OD before the VP and everything else after but I chose not to deal with that scheme. I like this system a lot. I built a leg-clip-on box for this a couple of years ago and I had it built into to the new Williams last year. |

btw -- that clothes pin is really small and it is very crappy. It will fall apart if you look at it too hard. So I fortified it a bit by inserting a rod (a little brad) to help keep the two prongs aligned. They want to skew themselves sideways and let the spring jump out. It has worked....so far this has taken normal gigging abuse and held up. |
