Really like what you did with that one! Just bought a copy, as my version of Misty stays a bit too "single note" I think and some of those voicings are great. I'm also fortunate that even though you have it marked in high G C13, you stay off the top string in the tab, which is good since I play high E C13!

Looking forward to working through the tab a bit!

Nic, which is your E13? How is it spelled, lo to hi? So many E13s floating around the steeliverse! Can you play this Misty on it?

Leon McAuliffe E13 seems like a whole different animal.

This version of E13 seems like a high G C6 tuning with a Bb at the bottom
(lo to hi- Bb C E G A C E G). With the high G, it could easily be tweaked to play Don Helms (from the Hank book, lo to hi- A C# E G# B C# E G#).

Sorry, this isn't an E13 tuning...when I said high E C13 I mean its a C13 tuning but with the top string being E, also known as Jules Ah See C13. C13 (usually) is a variant of C6, with an added Bb to give a sort of 13th chord, but no 9th. Mine is high to low E-C-A-G-E-C-Bb-C.

I've tinkered/dabbled with E13 but it's a little trickier for me to make anything more than dreamy sounding chords on...C13 is a bit simpler because its mostly just a C6 tuning, the flatted 7th that you can add in is very "modular", bolted onto the low end where it is easily omitted from a strum. (and the 6th becomes a 13th with the 7th added in).

Thanks for purchase my arrangement Nick and Walter . Hawaiian C13th with low C string 8 and E on top it alsois good for my arrangment. I wrote Hi G on tabs but I did't used that string. And yes it is a very versatile tuning.

My take on Flavio's tuning is lo to hi- C Bb C E G A C E.

There's a variant of C6 (or whatever ya wanna call it) that John Ely calls the "Junior," that goes lo to hi- Bb C E G A C E G, that gives the G on top which would make the Don Helms Hank tuning easy. The "Junior" would also cover Flavio's arrangement of Misty... I'm going to string up a neck... oh my goodness... what would you do?

I think it gets that name from Junior Brown, who tunes to that version of C13. Both are basically the same tuning, one just uses the extra string to add a high G / 5th, the other adds a low C / root. If you're used to playing C6 with a high G, or like the patterns it affords (particularly western swing) the Junior Brown version is nice...for me I like a big fat 13th chord with a big 070 low C string...very "Hawaii Calls". Maybe we need 9 strings? Smile

If you had a 10 string, you could have your high G, and low Bb and C. What to do with string number 10?

A high B chromatic string of course. The note between the A and C but put up top as the first string. The more tri-tones the better.

It worked very well for Murph although he put it way down as the bottom-most string. I tried that per Murph's suggestion but it was too weird for me down there and I ended up putting it on top.

You could also put a D up top like Buddy Emmons to fill out the diatonic scale without quite so much bar movement.

Actually I don't see the need for the extra low C so if I had a 10 string console or lap steel I'd probably have
Bb C E G A C E G D B

It'd be the Junior Brown tuning with 2 re-entrant (out of order by pitch) strings (D & B) like the chromatic strings on a pedal E9 tuning. The D would belong (by pitch) between the 4th & 5th strings (C & E) and the B string would belong (by pitch) between the 5th & 6th strings (A & C). By putting them up out of the way you'd keep the core C6 tuning intact and just reach up and snag them with your middle finger for diatonic scale tones or chord extensions.

Other oddball strings that would add a lot to the tuning could be C# and F (either or both) on lower strings. But now you're talkin' 12 strings or keep it to 10 strings and make choices. Strings are cheap. I say everyone should try all these variations, explore them long enough be certain what works best for the music you want to play and then stick with it. For me, the center of gravity is Junior Brown's 8 string C13 tuned down to A13.

I used to think that top G in C6th, 13th etc, was theoretically OK, but kind of thin for the way I play, which is A6th with E on top. However, in the case of transcription, the C tunings, with the top G, are very convenient having the same intervals as A6th. I just moved it up 3 frets.
