I have owned a couple ShoBuds and to me they are very comfortable to play. I was wondering how the Emmons guitars compare. I don’t need any opinions on tone or which one is better than the other. Those that have played/owned both how do they stack up as far as ease and comfort of playing. I’m sure a lot of it is what you stick with and get used to playing
Thanks,

On my push-pull, activating the pedals and knee levers takes a lot more effort than my rack-and-barrel and barrel-and-puller Sho-Buds.

Andrew I have a two hole puller bud and it plays with ease i love it!
I have played a PP Emmons with very tight pedals and one with very squishy feeling pedals. I suppose it all boils down to how well they are set up!! |

You didn't specify what model Emmons.
The LeGrandes play a lot easier than the p/p's.

My PP plays as easy as my SKH Emmons. It was set up by Lynn Stafford. I think that has a lot to do with how a PP plays. Lynn's the man. _________________ 78 Emmons PP,Great tone.82 Emmons SKH #56 |

Erv yeah I should have specified. I guess mainly the LeGrandes. Also curious about comfort of knee lever placement? Just overall comfort and playability!?
Thanks |

Brian,
I prefer an Emmons over a Sho~Bud.
I've played both.

i had a beautiful two hole puller ldg that i kinda wish i still had, and i have an emmons d10 pp and an s10 pp.
with the big body, the ldg was so comfortable and stable. the left knee left lever was also very comfortable because of the mounting angle. pedal travel was long but really smooth. all in all it just felt right to play.
my d10 emmons also feels great. the left knee left took some getting used to, and i had to install a set screw angle adjuster to get it to work for me. i've been playing that guitar 90% of the time for the last 2 years and it feels great. the pedal travel is a bit shorter and a bit more effort compared to the ldg, but the pedals seem to come back quicker. the knee lever feel on the pp is better than on the ldg.
i have an amazing s10 emmons that was rebuilt at some point by tommy cass, and it looks probably better than when it came out of the factory. i have every reason to think that it is set up as well as any emmons could be. ergonomically, i can't get used to it. it feels a bit like it wants to dance on stage, and the knee levers just aren't in a comfortable spot, even though it has angle adjustable levers and a flag for the left knee. pedal feel is very light compared to my other emmons, probably owing to a great setup. i wish it was a d10, though, because it's been in its case since the last time i knew i had to walk a long way with my gear.
in my limited experience with steels, they all feel horrible to me if i haven't sat behind them for a few hours, but somebody with more chops and experience probably does not have this problem. |

The rear neck on the Sho Bud seems a lot lower than the rear neck on the Emmons. That is relative to the front neck, I should stress. I played SB for years before the Emmons and found it quite different at first. In fact it took a lot longer to get used to than I thought it would. Of course I got there, as I think all would. It may not be an issue for everyone, but it certainly was for me. |
