I have the 3rd marrs ever made coming, and wondering if any might know a story or two about these early ones ? I’ve contacted Jeff surratt and he confirmed (for the most part being Duane’s machine work, as do I as I had a later d10)
If anyone has any others marrs from early on I’d like for you to share !

Hey Daniel! Duane's guitars were nice builds and innovative due to his willingness to try things that other builders didn't(or wouldn't). I owned the first production Marrs that I ordered in 1980. It was built after Duane's prototype. Another guitar was built before mine by Robby, who worked for Duane, for himself. Presumably, serial #0001, as mine was #0002. My guitar was a red lacquer D-10 w/ alum necks, and set-up 8+10. First official sale of a Marrs...and first one played on the Opry stage. I wouldn't be sure that yours is #0003 as the earliest Marrs had two piece necks and longer than normal fretboards(two-octave). It is definitely an early model. I ordered a second guitar in '85. It was also a lacquer body(orange) and had black Formica on the underside of the cabinet. My idea, Duane was intrigued with the concept and made it happen. Sounded a little different, but nice. Anyway, sounds as if you're excited about your new steel, hope you make good friends with it. I'll take another look at your guitar pic and see if I see anything else I can tell you about. A good Nashville player friend of mine still has 'ole #0002, his "fave" guitar to this day. Think I've got a pic somewhere, may have to send it later. Glad to be able to fill you in. Play gooood! Regards,RK P.S. You can do a forum search for "Marrs..the original" to find the pic _________________ "think MORE...play LESS" |

I’ve got the marrs changer apart and rebuilt !
Oiled rivet points with 3n1, then wiped away any excess
Oiled the nut and main axle with tri flow
Also got bell cranks moved around for my copedent
Will update when it’s playing! But so far it’s smooth as butter with no funky business! _________________ Guitar,Bass,Drums,PSG,Lapsteel,Mandolin,Banjo

I have #22. That guitar bought my first house and helped raise 2 kids! I wore it out. |

Very cool!, the 03 is pretty much ready to play, I have to get 4 longer stop screws for Rkl, Rkr and lkl
Used the Mullen rodding to have a starting point for the bell cranks and adjusted to taste _________________ Guitar,Bass,Drums,PSG,Lapsteel,Mandolin,Banjo
