Anyone familiar with "common" tunings for lap steels with benders - such as the dussenberg. Luke Cyrus does some nice stuff but I think not usually in comon tunings. I've seen
GBD F#AD but perhaps there's some other go to tunings people are familiar with?

I use a very standard D (DADF#AD) and bend strings 2 + 3.
Have also used DEF#G#BE bending 2+3

Hi John,
I'm in the process of building a 7-string lap steel that I'm planning to fit with a Certano string bender. The tuning I use most is GM6/C7; Hi to Low: G,D,B,G,E,C,Bb. The 2 bender strings will be D & B. With that similar DM6/G tuning, I would be bending the F# & A strings. E9 pedal steels are set up to bend the B-string to C# with pedal #1. Standard electric guitars that are set up with a strap actuated bender typically bend either the B or D string. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-Bender

I've never heard of a standard electric guitar with a D bender. G is quite common though - definitely the most popular after B (many guitars have both B and G).

After much experimentation, I found that E6th works well in most situations....lo- hi B C# E G# B E with the benders raising the G# to A and the second string B to C#. Basically imitating the A and B pedals on a PSG.
Try it!

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to try some of these out. I actually have an 8 string that I tune the same as strings 1 - 8 of an E9 pedal steel, except I lower down to B9 so I can more easily do behind the bar bends for alot of country sounds. I was thinking of getting a second lap with benders and a different tuning for some other sounds.

Sorry make that D9. I'm only down about one full tone from E9.

My dream guitar is a lap steel with the Bud Isaac/Speedy West E9 to A6 change.
E, G#, B, D, F# G#, B, E to E, A, C#, E, F#, A, C#, E.

Wrist levers for the G# to A and B to C#, change and a dropper for the E to D.
