I just bought a Peavey Vypyr 2 because I have multiple instruments. Can anyone tell me what amp would be the best for Pedal Steel.
Thanks _________________ Ernest "Butch" Colding |

The old stand by nashville 400 peavey or if you have money to spend Telonics quilter and milk man or little walter. The last 4 I mentioned run anywhere from $1500-$2,000 but are great amps _________________ S12 MSA Classic Nashville 400 with fox mods amp 1 volume pedal 1 Lil Izzy and 3 cords |

Excuse me... but if you can carry it, the fender Twin still ranks in the top 5, and is affordable and the re-issue models are very nice.. been giggin one every week for over a year. _________________ MSA CLassic SD-10

Sorry I wasn't clear on the question. The amp I have has several Peavey amps you can access. Budda, 6505, 6434, XXX, Classic, Butcher and TWN on the electric side and two acoustic amps Trace and Ecoustic. I was trying to see which one of these would work. _________________ Ernest "Butch" Colding |

Choose the Twin modeling. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I failed to explain that the Peavey Vypyr Series of amplifiers are "modeling" amps for six string electric, electric acoustic and bass, therefore you can access realistic sounding amplifiers by using the Vypyr VIP series amplifier. If you don't mind my saying, I've found the Vypyr amplifiers to be authetic in tone, overdrive characteristics as any competitor amp out there. I held off for years on even plugging into a "modeling" amp because I had tried out other competitor modeling amps and they did not sound like their original counterparts. I must confess that the Vypyr amplifiers come as close as any modeling amp being sold today.
Note; Unfortunately, Peavey does not offer a steel guitar modeling amp. |

Fender modellers offer a Jazz King model, usually. When using a Fender modeller, I will use that, the Blackface Twin and clean Tweed models.
Nothing like that Jazz King model on the Vypyr? |

Coming from a 6 string background the pedal steel is new to me. I know what I want in an electric or acoustic guitar in sound but I don't have the ear for the steel sound yet like you guys do so I am trying different things, Thanks for all the input I need all I can get. _________________ Ernest "Butch" Colding |

This would be the best place to start.
However, if this is the series/model you have:

I'd give the bass amp models a try as well. Seems like bass amps are fairly popular with PSG players and the more modern sounding bass amps are made to reproduce a wide frequency range with a high degree of clarity. The Trace Bass patch might well be a good contender for PSG. |

Wish the vipyr tech was available in a head or pedal format. |

The early version of the Vypyr(non VIP series) amplifiers did. It was the Vypyr 100 top box. Probably didn't make a lot of them but they were offered for about 5 years or so. |

Butch, I know this is an old thread but I was wondering how this amp was holding up for you. Been looking at small affordable combo amps for my lap steel and this one got my attention. |
