I have a Regal dobro and one of the sound hole screens got bent. I have some replacement sound hold screens that appear to be the same size but I don't want to completely ruin the existing taking it out just in case the replacements aren't the correct size.
Are the Regals glued in? or just a very tight fit? |

Jack,
Unfortunately the Regals were inconsistent with their screen installation. I've seen them glued. I've seen them merely press fit.
You might try a hair drier on the screen area. It'll be warm enough to help soften potential glue without damaging the finish.

Thanks, Howard. I suspect these are glued as I can't budge them. Tried with an Xacto knife and dental floss, as I read an old forum post. |

Yeah....I understand.
It actually may be easier to go inside the guitar (disassembly) to push the screens out from the inside.Depending on the model and interior access.
Sorry.

A word of caution. I inadvertently bought a Regal because of this. A guy brought one to me to evaluate because he wanted to sell it. I wanted to take the screen out to look at the soundwell. All I have ever seen popped right out and this one seemed loose most of the way around. when I lifted it, the top ply of the plywood came with it. So I said, "Well you've sold it, what do you want for it?" It was a good looking guitar, we settled on 400.00. I repaired it and got my money back out of it. Since then, I have always ran a razor blade all around the screen to be sure and even then, I'm very slow taking it out. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

Mine just has a dent in the screen. I can live with the dent. This one has the three small holes between the screens. I tried with an allen wrench through the small hole nearest the screen but it wasn't tall enough to reach the screen to try and pop it back out. I'll have to try and find something with a longer bend. |

I use a soldering gun with metal rods in place of an actual soldering tip--the rods don't touch each other--to remove glued in frets. Pressing the metal rods on top of the fret allows the fret itself to complete the circuit and become the "tip." This melts the glue, and the fret will then come out easily.
Something like this might work to melt any glue that might be there on the soundhole screen. Just a thought.
