Here's a version I recorded today of "A Thousand Miles Away", based on the Santo and Johnny cover of the doowop tune by the Heartbeats...

I'm in C6. I'm semi convinced there's a bit of multitracking going on, given the different "voices" of the steel overlapping in Santo's version, but I gave it a try in one take, just have to jump around the neck a bit. Here's the original...well, original steel version anyway. Santo had such an emotive sound and feel to his playing:

Sounds good Nic. I think that overdub is his crazy Double E neck for the non chime section. Also, and this is so Santo, check out this not so distant cousin to that “Originalâ€!

Jeremy...you aren't kidding...some of those Santo and Johnny numbers, he stuck pretty close to a (winning) formula...that one I was sure was the same song even a bar or two after the intro was over! Using a lot of the same "vocabulary" there but I like it.
Thanks Derrick...nor had I until I found this S&J version...the actual original is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72ZRr3mH20w _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

Really nice Nic. I've listened to it a few times now and each time it is still thrilling. _________________ Steve Marinak |
