Last Tuesday night after about an hour of picking my E9 neck started to sound bad. The wound strings sound like a blanket thrown over them and the fourth and fifth strings began to sort of jump out with a ringing scream. I was using a 50-watt tube amp. I changed to another amp, a tube also. The same problem. I tried three different tube amps and three different solid-state amps. Different tone, but same problem.

The C6 neck (GL E66 pickup) is fine.

I changed strings, (SIT) no help. I removed my RV3, got a new Monster cord and went straight to the amp. No help, same problem. I checked for loose wires, nothing. The pickup is a Truetone.

I have had pickups go microphonic, but never anything like this. Any suggestions appreciated. The only other thing left to try I suppose, is a new pickup.

It possible it has dropped a ground on that side.

Do you have a multimeter you could use to help you find the fault?

The problem was an inner ear infection in my right ear. I had no idea it would cause problems like that. Anti-biotic and prednisone made the difference. Not the pickup.

It's very odd that your "problem" was only noticed on the E9th neck.
