What is the proper name/model for these keyless Maggies?
How do they sound in comparison to the early Dickerson-style and student model Maggies?
Is the keyless feature problematic?
What is the scale length?
What would be the highest amount you would pay to purchase one?
What would be the lowest amount you would sell yours for?
I welcome any and all comments from owners or former owners.

I have a couple of them.. they are cool, but I can't imagine it being anyone's "main" guitar... tuning can be a bit of a chore because it's a bit touchy... but once it's there it stays put.
The pickup isn't really like other Magnatone pickups.. not much treble.. mostly mids..
I think I paid 150 for one and 200 for the other.. They generally don't go for much..
Pro Tip #1 Only use a Allen wrench with a nice snug fit..you do not want to strip the head of the tuners..
Pro Tip #2 If you disassemble the tuners, DO NOT lubricate the mechanism.. it relies on the friction to work.. Don't ask how I know this.. _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

I don't know much about them but I sure love the way they look. Like something Jules Verne would have designed. |

Magnatone Melodier. Pain to tune, but stays tuned real well. Take the back off and put a towel in there to stop resonant notes (it's MOTS covered bent steel). Real fun to play on your lap while watching TV because it is so short (headless). I like mine.

Nice score Walter! I've looked at these online in the past as a possible travel guitar. Very compact! What are the approximate dimensions & weight? |

It's in transit as we speak, but I'll give the lowdown when it arrives! I was thinking of setting it up in Leavitt tuning! |

Thanks to everyone for your contributions. Since I remain pretty much a die-hard Ric and Gibson guy as far as lap steels are concerned, my interest in the Melodier is waning with each passing day. I was originally intrigued with the one in the photo above. If the entire state was not on lockdown, I would consider driving to the other end of Colorado to check it out. For anyone who's interested, it's apparently still available at the Music Go Round in Fort Collins. Aside from the shipping cost, the price seems fairly reasonable.
