I know the new Twin Tone Master has two 8 ohm speakers. Here is everything I know about speaker ohms: When you connect two 8 ohm speakers the ohms in each speaker drops to four, if your amp speaker output is 8 ohms, you can substitute a speaker with higher ohms, but not lower. Now to my question: If a person wants to swap out the two 8 ohm speakers in the Tone Master with one 15" speaker (like a Vibrosonic) would you use an 8 ohm speaker or a 4 ohm speaker? My guess, based on what little I know, would be an 8 ohm speaker.

Thanks for any comments.

The stock two speakers are 8 ohm each in parallel and thus 4 ohm load. A "proper" load would be a 4 ohm speaker. I don't know what an 8 ohm would do to the amp, if anything

Thanks,Jack. I have three 4 ohm JBL D-130's, so this is great news. Having been a JBL guy since the 60's and having tried the popular new neo speakers, I want to do a comparison between the Tone Master Jensen neo's and the D-130.

I will be taking possession locally of a Tone Master Twin when my stimulus money comes in. If you don't mind, I would like to consult with you when I am ready to test the JBL. I want to make sure I am hooked up correctly so I don't damage the speaker or the amp.

George a heads up in case you didn't know. The wires for the speakers come direct from the chassis. They don't plug in the back like a tube twin.

Thank you, Craig. I assumed that would be the case. I bought a new Twin in 1968 but I don't remember plug in speakers. Over the year's, I think I have had a couple other amps that had plug in speakers. I will just use a speaker wire with a raw end and twist it together with the amp wires for testing.

Gene, for me, this is fantastic information. I've never had anybody explain the difference between parallel and series that made much sense. This explains it perfectly and looks like a walk in the park to connect one 4 ohm speaker to the amp speaker output wires.

Thanks so much. This is exactly what I need to know.
