I've been lurking for a long time, but I finally decided to take the plunge. Anyway, I have some questions to ask you all (which I'll ask in separate posts). I've already gotten some useful information here; for instance, I've been able to replace the tuning peg buttons on several Valco lap steels using the method I found here. I've been playing conventional guitar and blues harp for more than 50 years; about 25 years ago I was browsing at a vintage guitar shop that I frequented, and I saw a Kamico (Kay) lap steel they had on display. I picked it up and fiddled with it for a while, and then asked the proprietor how much it cost. He said "$100". Sold! When I went to the counter to pay, the proprietor said "Did I hear you playing Albert King riffs on that steel?" I said yes, and he said "Stop it!" and laughed. At first I only played it at gigs, but for the last few years I've become obsessed with the lap steel, and have been practicing diligently. I hardly ever pick up the conventional guitar any more; I'm kinda bored with it. I joke with my friends - "The guitar is so 20th century!"
