A hugely influential Jazz piano master. Modern jazz piano wouldn't be the same without his use of fourths behind Coltrane.

Big fan here... was fortunate to see him in the '70s in a beautiful concert hall with the "Milestone Jazzstars" (Sonny Rollins (!), Ron Carter, Al Foster). Then at the small Catalina club in Hollywood in the '80s with a trio (from about 5 feet away), and then again at another concert hall in Nashville a few years later. Always overwhelming technically/musically, and very moving. One of the greats for sure, IMHO.

I saw him once in 1974 at Keystone Corner, a small jazz club in San Francisco. Stone cold genius. I used to haunt that club and also saw Miles,Freddie,Benson,Mingus,Roland Kirk and many other jazz greats in their prime perform there. Almost all of them gone now.
