Just curious to see if anyone has tried speakers different from the stock 12’ers in their Tone Master Twin Reverb? I’m contemplating a used one I found, if I get it I’ll try the factory jobs but will most likely get a set of 12†Double T’s for it. Warranty is only valid to original purchaser so the concern of a voided warranty is moot.
Thanks!

Part of the beauty of the amp is the weight. If you are going to add weight I would buy a tube Twin. My Tonemaster works great right out of the box. But then I bought mine for the weight and the simplicity without needing other devices to make it better. Just me though and as I get older less is more. |

Craig,
I was only thinking about Neodymium speakers, but voiced specifically for steel. Like I said, I’ll try the stock ones if I get the amp and see what happens. Just looking to see if others might have fooled with anything different. |

After mucking around a bit, I felt that, to my ear, the Jensen neos were a weak link in the amp's sound. (But then, I have never owned a neo that I liked as much as a traditional speaker.) My solution was to replace only one of the Jensens: gaining tone and sacrificing some low-weight. I ended up with a Celestion Vintage 30 and was very happy with the sound of the pairing. Yes, I added about 7 pounds to the amp. At 40 or so ibs, it's still 20-30ibs lighter than a tube twin (and 5ibs lighter than my '71 Twin chassis in a head cab!), and still lighter than my tube DRRI, so I'm good with it. |

I'm going to get very tempted if they start making a 15" ToneMaster Twin! |

Dave, it would be easy to turn it into one. Just order a 15" baffle from Rick Johnson or one of the other builders familiar to forumites. Like the '60s blackface twins, the TM has a screw in baffle, so its easy to swap out. Easy peasy. |

Dan,
How would you get around the fact that the speaker wires are hardwired into the chassis? I’m presuming that the two 12†speakers are 8 ohm each adding up to a 4 ohm load.
But I do like the idea of putting a 15†speaker in it!
Thanks,
