There is an instant connection, from hands to strings, no other things to get in the way of my spontaneous musical thoughts or ideas, and no preconceived notion about the way it has to be played or sound.

This is Jan Hammer’s tune Too Much To Lose. I record like this all the time just for no other reason than to get my kicks. I can’t imagine doing this on a pedal steel.

I think you're right, a certain immediacy about it.

I was 'splainin' it to Lucy, and got out my Steelonious to play for her. We're listening to Round Midnight. She's digging it.

Mike, that was really enjoyable to listen to, as are all of your posts.
It also made me listen to more Jan Hammer on YouTube, what a musician.
An album from yourself featuring his music would be amazing.
Keith.

Yes, double tracked. One right after the other. I only had to fix one or two spots. The acoustic guitar too, but accuracy wasn’t as crucial as the melody.

Keith, Jan Hammer is one my favorite musicians, no doubt about it. Definitely one of my biggest inspirations in playing steel. Heck, how many guys get a scale named after them. Yup, there is a Jan Hammer scale. It’s pentatonic: 1 3 4 5 b7

That’s a Boss Dr. Rhythm. The Maestro Rhythm King was not available. These are preset drum patterns.

Very cool Mike...I haven't heard that tune since the Reagan administration! I dig the soulful improv at the end too, kinda Beck/Allman-ish.

I believe it was Noel Boggs who said "I'm a musician, not a tap dancer!" when asked if he would go to pedals.

Wow, I loved that. Great job. I'm a huge Jeff Beck fan so I recognized the song immediately from his "There and Back" album. Thanks for sharing.
