Hi folks
Need to replace the pot on an old volume pedal.I managed to remove the nylon pinion wheel by boiling the pot in water for a few minutes...came off simply by sliding. Could anyone tell me what glue is uesd to secure the pinion gear wheel to the pot shaft. There was glue on the end I could see .
Thanks Dave |

You have many choices. If the fit is close or slightly snug, you can use blue Loctite, or even nail polish. If you're not worried about removing it again, you could use Crazy Glue (but that stuff won't dissolve in boiling water). For a quick ersatz fix though (that I've used before on loose knobs) I'd just put a couple pieces of thin cotton thread through the gear hole, and then push the gear on the shaft. Then cut off the ends. The good thing about using thread is you can use however many pieces are necessary to get it tight, but it will still pull off when you need to remove it. |

Hi again Donny,
Just to say that I completed the job and all is well. Your suggestion of using cotton thread got me thinking about rubber !!
I cut a small rubber band and passed it thro the pinion hole.I then pressed the pot shaft onto pinion the result was a Really strong torque resistant, interference fit ,which will also enable the pinion to slide off with small nosed pliers if need be .I am amazed at how the band holds to the pot shaft with no slippage ,yet can be removed if need be.Another method to our arsenel !!
