I've always had trouble with a raise knee. Seems like it's not to high (thus in the way) or it's too high and I can't hit it easily. I'm wondering if maybe the forward knee might be easier than a vertical. How about, you guys who have (or had) a forward knee - is it easy to use? How complicated is the linkage? |

I built one for my '70 MSA, and it was VERY easy to use..... however it only raised one string, one fret.
I've shared emails with Jim Palencar, and I think he will be working on one as well, so you may want to stop by his Steel Guitar of North County store, I see you are close.
Hope more folks share their experiences with a forward lever. I know Emmons offered it at one time, if not currently.

Thanks, Dave. I'm think that would be an ideal place to place the 4th string E- F# raise (all by itself). Should be easy to hit with A&B depressed. I don't like the AB - BC change 'cuz you can hear the wobble in string 5 when the change is made...anyway, thanks again. I need to make it down to see Jim one of these days, anyway. |

I have been working on a forward lever for my MSA Legend and it is a great addition and works out fine- like David's- only raising one string one half step- although I doubt that there would be a problem raising the 4th string a full tone but it is not designed to pull too many strings as it does not utilize a cross-shaft. However- it is my opinion that raising the 4th string- while a nice change all by itself with and without the A and B pedals engaged, it is still not a good substitute for the BC combination as it is too difficult to use both AB and a lever simultaneously as a substitute for typical quick BC phrasing- just not as "plaintive"~~ |

I agree that A+B+a knee to raise 4th string a whole tone is not a good substitute for the BC raise, Jim, because it is quite difficult to get the pedals and knee to come out together quickly, but the E-F# knee IN ADDITION to the C pedal is nice, like you said, with AB already depressed or for just the E-F# change alone. Jim set up my ZUM SD-12 Exte9th with E-F# on LKV in addition to the standard C pedal and for my style of playing it great to have that change both ways.

I've wanted E>F# on a KL for a while. Only place left on my setup would be the right knee. Is RKL/front a little easier to use than RKR/front, especially with the volume pedal?

A FORWARD moving knee lever? How on earth do you operate that while sitting down? Unless your seat is on wheels?

Per - Here in the U.S. we have several surgeons performing extendable knee operations. I'm suprised no one in Sweden is doing it.

Lee, our top surgeons have their hands full with the really important medical stuff, like augmenting mammaries on airhead blondes. But my 93 year old uncle's got a wonky knee he can bend in any direction and pop out of its socket. Maybe I'll let him show me
Seriously, I can't imagine how it can be done while sitting down - at least not with any degree of precision.
