The Jazz chord substitutions will work in a 3 chord country song if you make them flow as if they were just a continuous scale run.
I don't really think in terms of reducing chords down by substituting triads as Jazz. Really good as paths for riffs.
here is just an example for E9. I know it's played on the piano and not steel. I can't get my Tabledit to play steel! This is as country as a crap sandwich.
Here is just the cold hard chord facts, leaving it up to you as for embellishments.

Thanks for the great introduction to what are sometimes called "passing chords"! Knowing and using these is invaluable for making your playing and backup more melodic and interesting. |

here is an example of how this works.
Bo just randomly played the chords to Night live. I recorded it but he wouldn't let my use it so I just tabbed it out and played the midi from the tab and mixed it in. didb't take the time to sync tuning but As you can hear it works in Jazz style or country style

Man I love the forum. Thanks for posting this Stuart, the passing chords remind me of "the last cheaters waltz".
Thanks again |

Stuart, you do great work! Every player needs to internalize this and make it a part of their go to studies. So many places this works. Thank you! |
