Finally got around to watching this and I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting. These ISGC shows have become my favorite thing to watch recently.
Wally Murphy is great here. He can sing, play slow soulful stuff, super fast technical playing...Seems like he can do it all. I was thinking that if pedal steel will ever capture the mainstream public, it is going to happen because of someone like Wally, who can sing and also play. Most people (other than steel players) don't care for instrumental music, the way to get through to them is by singing and songs, and if the singer happens to play steel, they will notice.
My favorite song in this video is the last one. What a great melody! At 27:40 in this song, a guy in a suit (Scotty?) walks onto the stage in a Mickey Mouse hat, stands next to Wally and looks at him, Wally looks back, and the guy just walks off...Kind of bizarre |
