Hello, I have a question about Boss pedals. I have tried two different Boss pedals, and not at the same time, a Compressor pedal and a Super chorus, and they both give a low frequency whistle when activated. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Eddie, try using with batteries only. If ok then it's probably your power supply. Also trying different cables from guitar to pedal and amp. Otherwise?

Eddie..Agree with Larry's suggestion. I use Strymon pedals and a standard 9V unit such as a 'One Spot' will sometimes cause them to emit a whistling type sound due to insufficient power being supplied to the pedal.

Hey,Eddie-Boss makes their own power supplies-there will usually be a real small sticker that tells which one next to the PS jack on the front end of the pedal...I've had every kind of problem you can have with them trying to use"1-Spot",etc...finally went and bought the right ones-no more problems...hope you are well!

Good luck!

fwiw: I use One-Spot supplies and have had two go bad and induce a lot of noise into my guitar signal. The first time I isolated the problem to the power supply only after substituting cables everywhere in the chain.

I can't at this time remember exactly what the noise sounded like, but I know it wasn't the sound of 60 cycle hum or emf "buzz" like would come from fluorescent lights, etc, it was something much more obnoxious.

Thanks to everybody, I really appreciate all the help. I've been trying to use several types of adapters including a One Spot, and that could very well be the problem. Hey Steve, hope all is well with you! Amy sends her regards.

Are you using a daisy-chain power supply? Using modulation effects can sometimes give artifacts when power supply is shared. Use individual wall warts or batteries, as suggested above.

I have an Echoplex pedal that emits a low whistle when daisy chained with other effects. It needs its own power supply. I have Boss pedals daisy chained with no problem. Go figure🤔
