Hi there.
I just joined this forum, I'm an aspiring pedal steel guitar player living in Vancouver, British Columbia looking for a first instrument.
I would prefer to get something that won't require upgrading to a better model in the future (multiple guitar syndrome aside). I don't want a bare bones model with limited functionality. While I am a beginner, I have been playing guitar for decades and considering pedal steel for just as long. I recently picked up a lap steel, and it's become what I play most.
Looking for something in good condition, I want to concentrate on playing over maintance as much as possible. I've read that it's worth investing in a newer guitar.
Willing to travel, or ship. I am based in Canada, but I have a US shipping address (WA) and can pay in USD without issue.
Thanks! |

this is pretty relevant, especially John McClung's writeup

google "site:bb.steelguitarforum.com/ buy first" for *lots* of other advice
I always watch craigslist for PSG's in BC, if there's something interesting you can ask me about it. There's a couple good listings in WA state right now _________________ - keyless Sonny Jenkins laps stay in tune forever!; Carter PSG

Matthew, I highly recommend the Zumsteel Encore S10, $1600 or so brand new, all pull 3r/3l changer, lightweight, sounds terrific, will last you a lifetime, exceptional bang for the buck. Downside: very popular and usually a waiting list.
Gene Tani is selling his Stage One, by Zumsteel. I have it in my teaching studio and am checking it out, it's very clean, pretty red one. Pull release changer which has its limits, but still a low-cost way to get into pedal steel.
Gene is one of my many students I teach via Skype, email me if you'd like more info. steelguitarlessons@earthlink.net.
All best,
