Topic: Sho Bud D10 Knee Lever Questions? |

I just purchased this steel online. I'm very new to steel, but have fiddled around a little bit with my buddy's sho bud pro II D10. I'm currently in the process of trying to figure out how many knee levers this steel has or is able to have. Can anybody tell if this has more than the one lever that we can see in the photos? I'm really just trying to figure out how much time/money this is going to take to get it to a 8x4. Does it need full on rework of the mechanicals? Or are the levers just missing? Is it even possible on this instrument?I'm waiting for response from the seller, but figure I'd post here to see if somebody could tell just by looking at these "blurry" photos.

| The late James Morehead fitted my Professional with five knees--although the left knee vertical was a bit limited. You can definitely have four under there, with the RKR operating on both necks. Not sure who can make the parts for you, though. |

I'm far from an expert, but I only see one lever, and I don't see any unused racks (those long things with all the holes). That would lead me to believe that it's capable of more levers, but the parts aren't there. Yes, you could add three levers, and the cost would be probably be between $400 and $600, depending on who did the work.
But...if you're very new to pedal steel (and it sounds like you are), I'd just get a lesson or two and play it like it is for about a year. There's a lot of playing left in that old axe, and I wouldn't hesitate to take it on any of my gigs. Learn what's there, and then think about upgrading or getting something else. |

Thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking/hoping. Pretty sure I'll take it directly to Jim at steel guitars of north county once it arrives...at least to give it a once over. He'll know what's going on under the hood of this baby.
And yes Donny you are right about two things...I am very new to steel and there's for sure a lot work/fun with just one lever to be learned.
