My first post - Hello folks, happy to be here!
I'm looking to replace my worn out Schaller with a no-frills passive volume pedal that's:
Reliable, high quality, noise and creak free, hopefully available in Europe.
Any ideas? Ernie Ball and Goodrich seem popular here but I can't tell which models are best
Thanks.
PS I do have a Moyo micro pedal which is fine, but sometimes I prefer the feel and solidity of a full sized one. |

I got a 1971 DeArmond, still works great!
I kid, it's ok but i feel like there's something better out there too. I'll be watching this. |

The Ernie Ball is inexpensive, but the string will routinely break and need replacing, and it's a minor trick to learn how to do so.
I use a low profile Goodrich and really like it. |

Stage One volume pedal sounds like what you’re describing. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe.

If you play standing up you may find the Ernie Ball more comfortable. |

The Goodrich is a bit expensive, but worth it, in my opinion. It has a buffered circuit so you do not lose any high frequency tone. Operates on a 9v battery, which lasts a very, very long time. |

Ernie Ball makes a pedal with the input and output on the right side, that's the one you want for steel guitar, not the one with the jacks on the front.

Chris Tarrow's point is important, if you're playing 6 string you need a VP that will stay put when you take foot off.
Ernie Ball VP's work reasonably well, my pot got scratchy after a couple months and needed Deoxit, my buffered active pedals (Hilton, Goodrich) sound better) but for the price, not bad. _________________ - keyless Sonny Jenkins laps stay in tune forever!; Carter PSG

If the volume pot is the same design as used in the 1930s, I doubt it was intended for the continuous use required in a volume pedal. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

For me it's more about the way it's designed, the Ernie Ball has a pivot point much further forward, so it's more comfortable standing, but I find it awkward sitting down. Obvs everyone has different preferences, but just something to think about. For steel I like the low profile Goodrich.

I use an old Ernie ball with the jacks on the right. I replaced the pot with a Dunlop and the string with a braided kevlar/carbon fiber serving material that Dick Sexton sent me. Havent had any problems at all. Love the sound and pedal. |

I’d highly recommend Stage One volume pedal from Doug Earnest. A little over $100 and all the reviews I’ve seen have been great. Doug builds Zum Stage One and Encore PSG’s so his volume pedal is designed for steel. I am planning on purchasing one myself as a back up. _________________ Pre RP Mullen D10 8/7, Zum 3/4, Carter S-10 3/4, previous Cougar SD-10 3/4 & GFI S-10 3/4, Fender Steel King, 2 Peavey Session 500's, Peavey Nashville 400, Boss DD-3, Profex-II, Hilton Digital Sustain, '88 Les Paul Custom,Epiphone MBIBG J-45, Fender Strat & Tele's, Takamine acoustics, Marshall amps, Boss effects, Ibanez Tube Screamer, and it all started with an old cranky worn out Kay acoustic you could slide a Mack truck between the strings and fretboard on!! |

I would go for a used Goodrich 120 off the forum. Pretty much the standard in a passive pedal.
Had you asked about an active pedal available in Europe, my answer would be a Lehlie 90 made in Germany. Wonderful pedal made for steel. It and the 120 are the two I use. |

Kathy, check out the British Steelies Forum for sale section or Gerry Hogans Steel guitars in Newbury. I personally use Hilton, and have a Goodrich L120 As a spare, I got from Gerry., never had to use it. If getting a passive pedal get the Dunlop pot or the new Goodrich pot, modelled on the Dunlop, most others do not last.
Check Ted Nesbitt at Rainbow Music in Ireland, he had some for sale a short time ago. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

I also have 2 Dearmond volume pedals. One bought from Little Roy Wiggins Steel store on Broadway, Nashville in 1972. Have worn out and changed pots, but still both are going strong 48 yrs later. Can't beat that, Larry |
