I have a mid 30’s B6 that I am disassembling in order to send the horseshoe magnets to Tom Brantley to be recharged. The inner pickup itself has only one wire (hot) coming from it and it appears that the other lead (ground) is the two outside poles. The resistance reads 1.48k ohms which seems about right. But the middle 4 poles show open with the hot wire. Is this normal? I suspect those 4 inner poles contact the base plate and become grounded as well.

That method of grounding was used in some of the fry pans as well and is prone to oxidation and intermittent problems. I have successfully soldered a wire to the bottom of one of the poles that was previously used as a ground then grounded it in the circuit- not for the faint of heart as if the pole gets too hot it could necessitate a rewind of the pickup by melting the insulation of the pickup wire. |

Thanks Jim. The PU seems to work ok, so I’m gonna leave it alone. Tom Brantley told me this is quite normal for B6 pickups. The outer poles are the ground poles.
Thanks everyone. Happy New year. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

I got the magnets recharged by Tom Brantley. Reassembled the guitar. Wow. It sure sounds better. Great tone again. Great pole-to-pole balance too. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Super cool that an 85 year old instrument is still in regular use. _________________ GFI S-10 P U, Moyo Volume, Fender Steel King, Fender 5F4 Super-Amp |
