I have heard many discussions on strings, stainless vs: nichol, and I just installed a set of Jagwire stainless and I noticed that the individual unwound string wrappers do not have the word stainless steel on them. The wound strings do. The outer wrapper does say stainless steel. So, I wonder if the unwound strings are the same, stainless or nichol?

Stainless/nickel refers only to the windings of wound strings.

Jim:
I believe that all the strings cores are stainless. Then the windings are stainless or nickel. If this is true all plain strings are stainless.

Plain guitar strings are made from an alloy called "Swedish steel". The same material is used for the core of the the wound strings.
