Hanging in NYC 11/19-12/04, my son is at NYU Hospital. Looking to hear some pedal steel to keep me balance while there. I could also share some Christmas tunes taught to me by Buddy Charleton. Thanks, Paul Awalt

First of all I hope your son has a quick recovery. Good question, I'd like to know too and I live in NYC! Back during the 'Urban Cowboy" craze a couple of decades back you could generally find something going on in Manhattan. Now, not so much. In Brooklyn, one of th outer boroughs of the city, there tends to be more going on but you have to find it and then get there which could mean a long subway ride. I also try to keep an eye out in case one of the big acts that happens to carry a steel player plays one of the bigger venues, like Madison Square Garden, The Beacon Theater, etc. Haven't seen anything lately. The last time I saw anything interesting at all was when Jim Lauderdale played a medium size club but that was a couple of months ago.

Hi Ronald, I heard that Dylan’s playing at the Beacon and has Ronnie Herron in his band playing steel. I might try to sneak over there. Dylan has always been one of my favorites since Nashville Skyline. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Susan Alcorn will be playing !

Also you might check out Sunny’s Bar in Red Hook . Wednesday night it’s Smokey’s Roundup. They don’t always have a steel player but the music is astonishing and the players are truly legendary. Mostly Western swing and early blues music.

Thanks all for the support. I did get to Hills's Country BBQ, but mostly just saw the inside of a hospital room.
