I have a National double eight string lap steel, spent a lot of time fixing it up. Took it out to play tonight in the pick ups are so microphone like I can’t turn it up. Does anyone rework these kind of pick ups or can I get some vintage looking replacements? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure if any of these will work for you, but Lollar makes a lot of pickups for steel guitar.

I have the 6 string version of those on my national new yorker
They were DOA and Jason Lollar rewound them.
Yours may just need wax potting in which case any pickup builder /repairer should be able to do it
