This may have been discovered before but hey....

Whilst trying to adhere to the 2 quarters rule on my 10 year old Carter Starter pickup i realized that i was unable to adjust it low enough i.e. the gap was too great.
Problem !
Out of desperation i loosened the strings and freed the pickup to find a hopelessly squished piece of foam under it (literally 1/4 inch depth)
i gave the piece of foam a warm water bath and its depth is now ONE INCH !!!
Whether it will collapse again under load is unknown but the actual problem is identified.
This kind of demonstrates why i love the 'Starter'.
It's Analog !!
