I've got a big band gig coming up this week and I'm playing lap steel on one tune. I tend to sit at stage right and everyone in the band walks by me to get on & off the stage. This makes me a bit nervous about someone knocking over my instruments.

I've got a folding mandolin stand that I use for lap steel at home, but it's not real sturdy if you bump it.

So here is the solution I came up with - using a combination of the mandolin stand and a multi-guitar stand[see 3 photos below].

I had to put a piece of rubber under the mando stand to lift it a bit so that the tuners of the lap steel wouldn't rest against the guitar stand - the way it was originally resting it looked like the guitar stand could force the tuning knobs to turn a bit.

Here’s what I use for my homemade lap steel. It’s just a standard guitar stand held at a narrower spread with sone zip ties. It works great!

Bah! Stupid sideways pics!
