Has any one ever used steel flat stock instead of aluminum for the nut material. If so, how did it affect the sound? What plus does aluminum have over steel other than the weight? Anyone? |

Easier to machine and work.
I have steels with both.. tough to say how big a difference it really is.. a fresh set of strings would make a much larger difference _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

I tried a few nuts and bridges using steel, didn't notice any difference in the sound. Aluminum is easier to machine and it doesn't rust. |

I tried brass, aluminum, steel, bone, stainless steel. Bob and Frank are right, aluminum is much easier to work with and much easier on the tools. I really couldn't hear much difference between the 5 materials I used. _________________ Currently own, 6 Groner-tone lap steels, one 1953 Alamo Lap steel, Roland Cube, Fender Champion 40 |
