...thinking out loud here...for a project down the road.

I know GFI doesn't offer screw type splits on their guitars, but would like to know if it's practical and possible as an aftermarket mod on the changer housing.

Not interested in the extra rod split method.

Some guitars aren't configured right for adding split screws. Just curious about the GFI.

Not having a gfi presently, but having owned one in the past, I think the answer is yes that it’s changer end could be drilled and tapped for splits. I am not 100% certain but it’s certainly a worthwhile addition. As I recall another post we talked about the split screws. I’m going to have my emci modified ( I hope) if I can get someone to do the machine work.

I spoke with frank carter at infinity about this and I’m hoping when he gets tooled up he can modify them for me.

The gfi changer end is perpendicular to the guitar body as I recall and I believe there is ample space, what I don’t recall is specifically where the split screws might contact the fingers. I’m thinking just below the slot where the string ball is inserted??

You might give frank a shout. I’m fairly sure he is going to “tool up” for this kind of work. I think he has a guitar he wants to add the splits to himself.

Either way, let me know what you come up with, and whether or not I’m even remotely close in my thoughts about the gfi changers.

Again, not having a gfi to look at up close, it’s hard to be 100% sure.

And if you come across anyone else who might could do the work, I would be interested in that information as well.

As another option, I spoke with Gary carpenter about this as well. Thinking maybe Curtis hogue at rains could maybe do this work, but I haven’t heard back from Gary or Curtis.
My goal is to get it done fairly soon though. Whatever it takes.

Thanks

Bill
