Well.....guys, I've had a blonde, a red, a purple and I've still got a green and a black, no I ain't talkin women here, I'm talkin steels. And I know that the black ones play a lot better than any other color, that is, cept my green LDG.
But I want to ask you guys that play and own black steel guitars, do you have a hard time keeping the darn thing clean?>>>
Before every gig I wipe my Black Carter D10 down and wipe it again and again and after the first set, I look down with the stage lights on it and you can see every particle of dust plain as day.
I've never seen a steel harder to keep looking clean, than BLACK. I don't remember the blonde or the red being that way, not even the green LDG. I'm just curious, do any of you guys find this to be true with a Black Steel or am I just working in a dusty club?
Gene

It's the same with black cars - go to the car wash, and in an hour it looks like you need to go again. Gloss black shows all surface contaminants more than any other color - surprisingly, white is easier to keep looking "cleaner".

I've had several black mica guitars over the years and yes, every single one showed everything. I have found a mica color recently that doesn't show anything and that is gunstock walnut mica (Satin). My favorite color is the dark burgundy that is used on the Rains guitars. It's actually called sandsoree(don't think I spelled it correct)but here in Mississippi, we call it burgundy!

Interesting, I didn't realize every state had a special name for that color. In California we call it "cabernet."

I have a black mica Emmons that I cover with a towel when I'm not playing, and
it stays clean. I almost never wipe it with anything, and it looks fine to me.

I bought an MSA D-10 new in '78, it was black lacquer with gold pinstriping, it looked great. I did have to wipe it down often as the black lacquer was beautiful and like a black mirror but showed fingerprints. I didn't mind keeping it clean. Wish I'd kept it.

Hello Gene, I agree with Jim about the cars.
My Carter universal is black, and I have the same job keeping her dry...notice I said her?? I have a cloth which you must have in the United States, that has a kinda compound in it, and it wipes really clean and also shines up the end plates chrome works etc. When I'm not playing my Steel, I cover it with a good heavy Denim steel cover a friend made for me.
