I think Vic's been with Joe since 2016 and still plays steel in the band.

Kerry..Would not raise my expectations too high! Saw Joe Nichols live at a casino in Ct. when he first began breaking through. His band consisted of two fiddles and steel guitar (Terry Crisp) in addition to the normal lineup. Since his professional career was in the beginning stages, the show featured a healthy dose of Merle Haggard(he can sound remarkably like Merle) as well as a few Western Swing tunes. The band was top notch and the show one of the best that I had seen in quite some time. Then the Nashville corporate influence reared its ugly head and he resorted to turning out such forgettable gems as, "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off".

Brett is correct, Vic is still ripping the steel with Nichols. You’ll enjoy his great picking!

I was in the band when Merle passed away. We were dead-heading to Medicine Hat to start a western Canada arena tour. When the band bus picked Joe up at the airport, he immediately told us he was adding some “more” Haggard tunes into the already-rehearsed set list.

In addition to “Footlights,” which he has included on an album, we got to play “Big City,” “Misery and Gin,” and a couple of others that escape my memory. Not just on the first night; the entire tour.

I can’t guarantee you’ll hear all those, but you’ll definitely see a country show!

Hey David & Kyle,

Thanks for replying.

The choice of song list material is secondary to my primary interest in just wanting to hear a great band that features a pedal steel centric sound.

Looking forward to hearing Vic's playing.

Thanks Guys

I'm a huge fan of Joe Nicholls' vocals. His 'Man With a Memory' CD is simply wonderful - top-notch production and some fine songs (especially that title track!)

I'm a fan of Vic Lawson, too. There are two people who have excelled themselves working on my Emmons - Buck Reid (just recently) and Vic a few years ago now. Both times it felt like a new guitar afterwards.

Joe dropped in on our “Little O’ Oprey” several years ago and came on stage and sang
“ Green Green Grass O Home” and of course did a great job. Joe was a performer on the “Oprey” early in his career before he moved on to Nashville. This photo of that surprise visit hangs on the wall in the foyer of the “Oprey”. Joe is a great Country ballad singer.
