I'm learning Asleep at the Wheel's Hightower and despite the back-ache, swollen fingers and general frustration I'm already playing fluidly at half speed, just another 100 bpm to go! Rolling Eyes

My question is about a couple of 16th note phrases that are semi tones or a tone apart:

As I get faster I find them cumbersome to play and they sound sloppy so I am now simplifying them. Is this a common practice (e.g., simplify) for steel playing or a question of practice (playing 'em properly!)?
