Im hoping someone can help me locate an album that I can't find anywhere. Tom recorded a few songs on a album for Ernest Tubb maybe in the 90's. I remember Tom telling me about it and he did have a cassette of it but never got the album. I remember the sound wasn't very good on his steel but I heard Ernest say "aw play it Tom". I would love to have the name of the album so I can get one. I would be so happy if someone would Please help me.

Ernest died in 1984. I don't recall Tom recording anything for ET.

He may have done something on the Legend and Legacy album but I haven't seen it on the original version. Rose Drake has released many variations on those sessions that were done in the late 70s.

Sorry to report that, although I can't vouch for accuracy, Tom isn't listed on the credits here:

On countryswing.com there is a listing of all ET recordings and it has this one, 784. Letters Have No Arms, that Tom Brumley overdubbed on:

Monday, May 19, 1980 Pete's Place; Nashville, TN
BAND: Rhythm Guitar: Ronnie Dale Rotroff. Bass: Harold Bradley. Steel Guitar: John R. "Dumplin'" Cox. Drums: Jerry Don Borden. Lead Electric Guitar: Pete Michaud. Piano: Owen Bradley.
781. Driftwood On The River (John Klenner-Bob Miller)
(Overdubbed by Billy Walker).
782. I'm Gonna Make My Home (A Million Miles From Here) (Ernest Tubb-Talmadge Tubb)
( Overdubbed by David Rodgers. Note: parentheses are reversed from their position on all earlier recordings).
783. I'll Always Be Glad To Take You Home (Ernest Tubb)
(Overdubbed by Chip Taylor. Obvious mistake in title: should be "Back" not "Home").
784. Letters Have No Arms (Arbie Gibson-Ernest Tubb)
(Overdubbed by Kris Kristofferson and Tom Brumley (steel break)).
785. Give Me An Old Fashion Love (Ernest Tubb)
(Correct title is: "Give Me A Little Old Fashioned Love").
786. Try Me One More Time (Ernest Tubb)
(Overdubbed by Jeannie Seely and Jack Greene. (Label only credits Jeannie Seely).

There are a bunch of postings of this song on Youtube.

I don't know if they are all the same version or not.

Maybe someone will go through them and fish out the version being discussed here, if it's in fact there.

They are different recordings, most was the original from 49, one was from 59 a rerecording, and one was from the Last Sessions with Johnny Cox on steel but it is not overdubbed with Kristofferson and Brumley. BTW ET calls out Dumplin!

I have the E. T. and friends and it is on the 2nd album. Ernest calls out for Tom on the break but when he plays you cannot hear him. This album had someone else singing and playing steel and they dubbed Kris Kirstoferson which you can hear singing but when they dubbed the steel it muffled.
Amazon has it for $3.86 maybe a different cd will work better.

I don't quite understand how ET calls out Tom when he and Kris Kristofferson were overdubbed. Did they get ET to overdub it too, to say that. ET does call out "Dumpling" on the recording without the overdub. That recording is on ET the last recordings and you can find it on youtube.

Just wanted to say that Johnny's work on Ernest Tubb's "The Last Sessions: All Time Greatest Hits" is stellar. Great taste and tone.

All those tracks were done with the Troubadours at that time plus a few studio guys like Harold Bradley, Pig Robbins, Owen Bradley and some others on the initial tracks. All of the guest singers and players were overdubbed at on later sessions. Once that was done E.T. did the overdubs calling on the other singers or players.

Rolene, it is on the album, Ernest Tubb and Friends. Unfortunately, the album I bought leaves out a lot of the left or right side. Tom's solo is barely audible, but Ernest does call his name. Not sure how to upload a tune on here.

You can't post audio or video direct to the forum. You need to upload it to another site, like YouTube, Soundcloud, etc... and post the link here.

This particular Cd we are discussing will not play loud on my player or PC. I think it has something to do with the dubbing. I cannot download it off the cd.

I bought the last copy of the Ernest Tubb & Friends CD on Amazon. Terrible audio on many of the songs. You are welcome to have it. Just get me your mailing address and I'll ship it out to you USPS first class mail.
