I use a boss cs3 compressor on my six string religiosly.someone mentioned using a limiter.what does this peddle do in comparison to the comp?

In GENERAL terms, a compressor will tend to keep all the signal level the same level where a limiter will "limit" the signal or keep it from exceeding a preset volume level.

I'm always a little uncomfortable with using compressors/limiters with instruments.
I guess I just prefer the levels to be under direct, manual control.

The only time I like to use compression is with microphones.

Having said that though I have sometimes used it with lead guitar, but I've never really liked it.
