i seem to be moving more of his things through craigslist but i would like to offer this steel to the forum members since there probably would be more appreciation for the older instruments.
this guitar is in super great shape and has a case. it has been his favorite guitar and i held it for last. he would like to get what he paid for it and that was 3000.00 dollars. i will pass on any offers.
i did not realize it but the cell phone picture is bad, i plan on getting another when i travel to his place.

...and of the case, too, please.

What year is it? Tweed case?

the case is not tweed, it is black and i forget the name of it.
i have used it in the past to restore a multi-kord case. it might be called tolex.
it is the standard fender case
the guitar is with my father and i live in another town. he does have a dust cover and leg bag also.

this is a tolex case material. the original multi-kord case was a shamble like the guitar which was split and pealoid finish lifting. they were stored in a wet basement. 90% of the case is restore material, the cover is a tolex which i believe the fender case to be.

this is the guitar after restoring it. many upgrades to stainless where possible and cables replaced with stainless rods. the thing holds tune without flinching. the pickup is weak but hey, from the 60's.
maybe, just maybe, rewind it to a hotter turns ratio and go with more powerful pole magnets.

Is your father the original owner?

If it's the original case, it's a mid-late 60s or 70s guitar? Do you know?

here are the pictures of the case

the guitar is a 1963
there were only 12 made that year and all had black cases. this around the time that leo fender sold out to columbia and the fender steel guitars went to sho-bud.
leo went on to make the musicman products.

no he is not the original owner. the guitar was owned by a man in canada, i do not know how my father came about getting it, he made friends all over the world. if it is the man i am thinking of, he passed away last year. he came down once a year and visited with him. matter of fact, he fell in love with a hybrid lap steel, part mine and part my fathers and took it up there to play it, when he died, the wife never sent it back. this lap would blow the roof off the building, the only thing i have seen to come close is one built by asher guitars.
my father built world's first guitars and when copied, built even bigger, got to the point that i told him the bar would have to have a handle on it and call it a harpsy-steel.
he loved the instrument and never tried to protect his inventions, shared freely and anyone could call with issues and he would guide them through the process.
most steel builder would not build a left hand model and they sent them to him and he never charged extra. his guitars sold for less than others because it wasn't the money, that came from the oilfield, it was a passionate hobby for him, he would still build if it wasn't for macular degeneration.

I think that is your problem. T-8's are selling for much less on the open market and that is for a 50's version with a tweed case. I might have made an offer, but $3k and a warning that no offers would be accepted made me pass.

value is in the eye of the beholder
in this case, the guitar was sold.
i did include best offer and he did get pretty close to the asking price.
turns out that a guy that comes to his assisted living center is a oldies guy and when other players told him of the guitar, right after the set, he marched to his room, plopped out cash and it was gone. really a sad day because he played gibson and fender triples in his early band days.
i do appreciate the input from the forum because if i cannot take the heat, i need to leave the kitchen.
so that leaves his last build, a non pedal console 8 string, a jackson kingslide and a multi-kord 8 string.

So glad it worked out.

I bought my blonde 56 triple stringmaster from your dad about 20 years ago.

He’s a great guy, and I really enjoyed our visits.

Wishing all the best for you all.

How do we know only 12 were made in '63?

It was 2 about years before he sold to CBS.

Although Sho~Bud did make some pedal steels for Fender, they didn't make any non-pedals which Fender continued to produce up till about 1980.

I'd also be interested to know where the "only 12 made" information came from and does that source have any information on production numbers for other models/years?
