'Nother question re: my new U-12 (haven't got it yet, but soon )

On my D-10 I always preferred a .022w for string 6 on E9. Does anyone do that on the U-12, and if not, why not?

TIA

The wound 6th is more stable for tuning (the needle on your tuner will not jump around as much). But if you do a full step lower, it requieres a looooong pedal/lever throw.
You will be raising it a full step on P7, and it will also require a noticably longer throw the a Plain string.
It's doable. You'll have to try it and see how it works on your steel.

Don, on my old ShoBud U-12 I always used a .022 plain string as it worked better with the full tone raise you'll need. On my current BMI S-12 I use a .020 which works great. It doesn't bounce around on my tuner at all and has a nice clear sound. I've tried a wound string at the 6th position before and it seemed to me like there was a slight volume drop between five and six when you did that.....JH in Va.

If an 0.022w is too long a throw, try an 0.024w. The higher tension will also add a little volume.

Hey Don, when did you decide to go to a U12? The last thing you mentioned to me was extending your Dobro.

Nosey.........er inquiring minds want to know.

Hey, Sir Geo! I have the 8-string reso and love it, but I couldn't last any longer without a PSG ... need one for my trip to Duluth next May

And Winnipeg of course ... I think Wayne will do it again.

Thanks for the response, folks. I will give the 6th string .022p a chance for a few months, then if I have as much problem with it as in the past, I may try the .020p and/or the .024w ... might as well have fun ... will be fully retired by Thanksgiving (ours..October)

I sure do hope Wayne will have it in April, if he does have it, I'll be there. May is also starting to look promising.

Don-I think you might like the 22P. I like the sound better than a wound string there...al
