What is "normal" string spacing??
My Sho-Buds - a r&b s-10 and a '83 s-12 both seem to have 11/32" c-to-c at the changer. I know my MSA is closer, but packed up right now. I'll add that info later.
What about some other guitar brands/eras?
Maybe we can find out if not what "normal" is at least what the average and/or mean is and a range. |

Yep, old topic..but maybe not bad to do a current survey.
My 8-string Fenders are 3/8". Nice and comfy. |

Thanks ebb, but as I looked through the results of the same search, actual measurement info is very diluted amongst discussion of a lot of other subjects.
Consolidated, comparative info would be nice, perhaps someone could put together a spread sheet. (perhaps me!) If you've seen THAT on the forum already please direct me to it. |

A few photos of my recent string spacing adventures. I prefer a larger spacing. I also need to dust a little. www.geocities.com/xftymv

My first Williams was 5/16". That's how Bill makes them. I kept stumbling going back and forth with my Sierra, so I asked Bill to make my new steel with 11/32" spacing. He did. I'm happy as a pig in slop.
For the survey:
Sierra: 11/32"
Williams: 5/16"

The only downside I've found on my Fender PS-210 is the LACK of taper in the string width. It's quite uncomfortable (Initially) to play at around the first five fret positions.
Fender PS-210
Nut end 19/64"
*Bridge end 19/64"
The changer is the nut end on this guitar

I used .330" parallel string spacing on the Whitney's. It makes for the same feel as a .343" tapered-string arrangement where you'd normally pick the strings. That's how I arrived at that dim. in the first place.
