Call me ignorant, but I have heard a lot about certain steels having the "Franklin Pedal", on them.
Could someone explain to me, what a Franklin
Pedal is and what it does? I would really appreciate it.
Many Thanks

A "Franklin pedal" lowers strings 5 and 10 a whole tone from B to A, and lowers string 6 a whole tone from G# to F#. It's usually on P4, or a zero pedal. _________________ www.pedalsteel.ca |

My 4th pedal lowers only string 5(maybe 10 later), and I have the 6th string lower on a knee. If I hit the B pedal with left foot and reach over with right foot and hit 4th pedal, I get the same note on 5 & 6. Letting off the two at the same time then engaging A & B sounds really cool. |

the Franklin pedal lowers strings 5 - 6 - 10 a whole tone
some have it position 1 as F A B C & some in position 4 : A B C F
some split it up & have it on 1 lever or 2 levers
for those that don't have the 6 string whole tone lower you got it on the Franklin pedal
1 - lowering strings 5 & 10 a whole tone gives a lower register
to start with
what E9 lacks is a how low can you go !?
in the 0 position for example lower both Bs to A gives you an A root :
string 10 : A - 1 root
string 8 : E - 5 fifth
string 5 : A - 1 root
2 - lowering those Bs to A also give you a great position to play in D
w: string 2 lowered a half tone (Eb to D)
A are the fifth of D right ?!
3 - last but not least, still at fret 0 - this time playing in B w: pedal B = B7
by lowering strings 5 & 10 down to A, you've got the blues to mess with |

So how would one go about installing a new pedal that would do this? Is it not a typical thing to do? I've thought many times how nice it'd be to have that lower "A" note.
pedal, rod, bell cranks, tension spring?
if someone has done this before how much did it cost you to do it? _________________ Jackson blackjack s10

Sometimes I have epiphanies.
This was one of those moments as to various functions of the Franklin PedalĀ®.

No Steve i don't push B & F together
i was refering to playing in the key of B using pedal B for the dom7th tone
my bad : i did omit the lever that lowers strings 4 & 8 a half tone (Es to Eb)
yes, it should be engaged (to get the major 3rd of B) along w: pedal B |
