I stopped by to just say hi to my pal Jim Palenscar last week. I do not play pedal steel- but I spotted this cool instrument in the 2nd showroom, and thought it was just too cool not to take a picture of.
What caught my eye was that it is a 9 string . . . . .
and THEN I saw the sign.
Jim says it was made for Joaquin by Chas Smith. Hope you enjoy it, before someone snaps it up-

Murph spent many hours playing that guitar in my studio and played it on his last recordings. It lived in my studio for a couple years after he died. I finally had to let go and give it back to Chas. I did adopt his C6/A9 tuning as a non pedal tuning on my Stringmaster w/out the low C#. It was originally his main tuning on the T8 Bigsby he played with Spade. |

So glad you found this post Michael!
Are there any recordings featuring this steel
that you could post for us to enjoy, that have
Joaquin playing it??
That would be SO awesome!
Thank you so much for responding,
Barney |
