Richard Blackmon was born December 2, 1946 in Nenah, Alabama to the union of Richard and Macy (McIntosh) Blackmon. He has two siblings, Peter Joshua, and Rommie.
Richard was raised in the Jewell Dominion Church of the Living God and is multi-talented, playing both steel and rhythm guitars. He began playing steel guitar in1977 after being inspired by Lorenzo L. Harrison, and Sonny Treadway.
Richard Blackmon was inducted into the Sacred Steel Hall of Fame during the 2018 Georgia Sacred Steel Benefit Concert.
