Remington Dating

I have recently got hold of a Remington Steelmaster double 8. I can't find any serial numbers anywhere and the pots lack any form of serial number. Does anyone know of a way to get approximate date? The only way of dating is the fact that the holes for the pickups is just a rectangular hole whereas some of the pics that I have seen shows the pickup cavity following the lines of the George L pickup leaving very little space around the pickup.
