Last night I played a big outdoor show, and the only lights were super bright LED’s along the front edge of the stage. They were at a perfect height to blind me so bad I couldn’t even see my fretboard. Luckily I had a little magnetic grill light that helped, but it wasn’t enough. It saved me but made for a very long, tedious night.
I used to always wear a hat, but these lights were coming at me from below.
I’ve seen a lighted fretboard overlay on the Forum somewhere but it’s been awhile. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Anybody out there solved this problem? |

I've used those clip on lights made for music stands or book reading, but I like this big one that Norm Hamlet uses.

I've had to play in very dark conditions either on stage or in the wings at a theatre. The lighting designers won't tolerate any distractions but I've had to insist on some illuminations or they can 'suffer the consequences'!!! (extreme pitchiness).
I now carry some small 'buds' that are LED lights and can attach to the front apron.
I love the look of the new MSAs with their lighted fretboards but my occasional need for one doesn't justify a whole new ($6000) guitar. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Sadly, Richard Topping gave up with his fretboards. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

I was greatly surprised at the lack of interest in Richard’s fret boards, they were very reasonably priced and easy to put in place. _________________ MSA Millenium SD10, GK MB200, Sica 12inch cab, Joyo American Sound Pedal/ Jay Ganz Straight Ahead amp, Telonics 15inch in Peavey cab, Digitech RP150, Peterson tuner.Hilton volume pedal.Scott Dixon seat and guitar flight case. |

I keep a clip on music stand light handy . I have used the flashlight in my phone before also. Just lay it sideways in the tuning keys. _________________ Bob |
